CLIP, CLOP, CLIP, CLOP......

SO, wesley's been in physical therapy for a year and a half now. when he started he was 16 months old and couldn't sit up, crawl or stand. they ran tests, studied him and just couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. they tested him for low mobility, cerebral palsy, hyper mobility etc. nothing seemed to come back a definite. he wore {braces} for awhile because they thought he might have hyper mobility (which wasn't the case). but since starting therapy, he has learned to sit up, crawl, walk, climb stairs and hop. he has made extraordinary strides in the short amount of time he has been in therapy but there is still one aspect of his life he struggles with. walking. he's spastic at best, limps and when he runs, he gallops. sideways. like a sashay. it looks comical and most of the time i find myself wanting to have coconut shells that i can click while i'm behind him! kinda like this...

ANYWAY.....

the therapists just couldn't figure out why he is still struggling with his walking and why he continues to fall down all. the. time. i feel bad for him because he's out with the other kids playing and trying to keep up and for the most part he does until they start to run around and then he gallops and falls and gets up, starts to run and biffs it on the ground. poor kid.
at his last therapy appointment the therapist re-evaluated him for cerebral palsy. this time everything he did, came back positive. on the left side. so, she diagnosed him with {hemi cerebral palsy}, but very minimal. obviously, otherwise they would have diagnosed it earlier. but it's a relief to think that now we might be onto something. that we might be able to know what's going on with him. i don't care if it's not curable, i just want to be able to have an answer for him when he comes and asks me why his leg and arm don't work as well as his friends or why he won't be able to play sports. now, i have to take him to get officially diagnosed and move on to more therapy. until then, bring on the coconuts!
