SO, if you add up the vast amount of time i have spent in malls, it would probably make up a quarter of my life. (maybe more) when i was a child i spent nearly every saturday with my mom at the mall. as a tween i was found there with friends trying to escape my horrible home life. as a teen i worked at two different jobs located in the mall, sometimes even pulling 12 hour shifts up to 4 times a week. and now as an adult you will find me at the mall as a walker. that's right. a mall walker. i enjoy doing this when the weather in crappy and i don't feel like going to the gym. (which has been quite a bit lately) i find walking the mall to be highly entertaining and very cool. gotta love air conditioning. it's entertaining in the people who also walk the mall. these are the groups i've seen so far:
middle aged men walkers:
these are the men who have the big guts with minimal disabilities (like a limp) who you know are only walking the mall because their wives have been on them to lose weight. they spend the majority of their very slow walking talking about work and sports.
before work walkers:
these are the women who are dressed in their work attire but wearing tennis shoes. they are pretty hard core and walk the total perimeter of the mall.
half-assed mom walkers:
these are the mom's who have kids under the age of one and have them in strollers. the mom's are anywhere from over weight to obese and they just seem to wander around the mall in no rush to do anything and do more window shopping than actual walking. oh, and they are always walking alone.
tight-assed mom walkers:
these are the moms who are far to serious about walking the mall. they are all freaking skinny, wear their exercise garb and literally race around the mall trying to one-up the tight-assed mom next to them. they are always in a group and they scare me.
retired military men:
these men are old, wear military propaganda t-shirts and don't walk at all. they sit with their coffees and mumble about military wars gone by....
old couple walkers:
i love watching these walkers. they are the old retired married couples who walk together. they too are serious about their walking and usually don't talk with each other but are totally focused on their walking. sometimes you see them with weights, sometimes just power walking. they are just so cute together.
i guess your wondering which one i am. i'm none of them. i'm the middle aged loner walker. i go by myself, i speed walk but don't take it seriously enough to walk every single inch of the mall. i'm there just to walk.
such is life as a mall rat...
