a mother's work is never done

scenario:
thanksgiving day...

bestfriend: my work is having a very fancy work christmas party.
me: i would love to go.
bestfriend: really?
me: sure, that would be so much fun.
bf: okay, i'll email you the details.

email from my best friend with the wonderful details of her work christmas party...

party at the swanky Ritz Carlton Hotel in a city an hour away on a saturday night.
7-8:00pm hors d'oeuvres
8-9:30pm sit down dinner
9:30-midnight dancing
menu selection of either a chicken, beef, fish or vegetarian entree.
dress: elegant attire.

my reality sets in...

-elise has a birthday party that afternoon
-no fancy dresses to fit into since last pregnancy
-no money to spend on a fancy dress that i will probably only wear this one time
-no babysitter available
-the mister has a church meeting 25minutes away that same night
-can not leave a breast feeding baby at home for that length of time without my breasts exploding or said baby have a massive meltdown

my worst nightmare of having to email my best friend and apologize for not being able to go, crying the whole time since i was REALLY WANTING to go and have a nice time with her.

so, goodbye nice hotel.
goodbye a fancy dress i'll never be able to buy or wear.
goodbye decadent hors d' oeuvres.
goodbye grilled vegetable napolean with red pepper coulis
goodbye night of dancing
goodbye hanging out with my dearest bestest friend in the whole world.

sigh. so sad.
