home made all-stars (or spaghetti-o's)

SO, today was my attempt to make the home made all-stars (or spaghetti-o's). i have to get this one recipe pretty much perfect because my kids used to consume vast amounts of this stuff from the can. no cans now makes me have to work a bit harder....
this is the recipe i used:

(this recipe isn't too exact, it's mostly just trial and error at this point. so taste as you go along and do what you like. have fun with it and be flexible.)

6 cups canned tomato sauce (since i'm not using cans, i used jarred passata)
3-4 cups water
2-3 teaspoons garlic powder (more or less, whatever you like)
1 lb bag anelletti (ring shaped pasta. i used stars since that's what my kids are used to)
1-1 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (freshly shredded is best)
1/4- 1/2 cup milk (i used soya because of allergies)
2 tbs butter
salt to taste

1. combine tomato sauce, water and garlic powder in a large pot. bring to the boil.
2. when the tomato mixture is boiling, add the pasta to the pot. cook, stirring frequently (the pasta is tiny, so it's easy to stick to the bottom) for about 20 minutes, or until the pasta is soft.
3. stir in cheese until melted. add milk, butter and salt to taste. taste it, check it out, see how you like the flavors. then enjoy it.
(recipe found from "oven love")

well, my first go wasn't to bad. i halved the recipe since the amount sounded like quite a lot and i don't have a pressure cooker yet to jar any of my own. it came out thicker than i would have liked and i suspect it's because i didn't add enough water and i used to many of the stars. the pasta made it thicken up. also, i think i used to much cheese and not enough salt and garlic powder. (i only started with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon garlic powder) i think i will need to be more generous with the spices on the next go around with less stars and more water. either way, the kids still ate every last bite so that's a small success in my book. this recipe is great. i'm so glad i found it!
