movie review and holy buckets...

SO, i've been off-line for nearly a week now. it wasn't intentional really but once i got started, it became easier and easier to just not get on the computer. that, and when you're husband is gone and you're making all you meals from scratch plus taking care of kids it really doesn't leave time for much else. oh, and i've been watching movies too. hence the movie reviews.
by the way, being off for a week has sure left me in dire straits with the blogging community. holy buckets, it is going to take me FOREVER to catch up on everyones posts. drats. anyhoo, on to the reviews...

well after years of being out, i finally let me kids watch high school musical and i bet you think i'm going to bash it don't you? well, you're wrong. i actually liked it which shocked me. i do like musicals after all and when you think about it, all musicals are super cheese as this one is. but i couldn't help but be totally impressed by the singing, dancing and acting that was involved for these young actors. they really did an amazing job. i kept thinking of the SNL skit that abby made me aware of though. you know, the one where zac efron tells the graduating class, "in real life, nobody sings!" (gasp!) ha ha ha. we liked it enough for us to go out and buy the first and third musicals but for some reason you can't find the second one. dumb. so, this movie is fun for the whole family. really. i mean when you think about it, it's better than fresh beat ANY DAY!

when it comes to hallmark movies, it's certainly hit or miss. more miss than hit in my humble opinion, but this was a really good movie. it was re-broadcast a couple saturdays ago and i caught it right as it was starting. i found myself really enthralled with it wanting to watch every second. i love movies like that. i also love movies about everyday life that turns into amazing experiences to be remembered throughout the years. because i feel that the absolute mundane in life can be extremely beautiful at times. i dvr'd this movie and i'm glad i did because i can't seem to find it anywhere. netflix doesn't even have it. so, if you want to watch it, i'll let you borrow it. (the mister made a copied DVD of it for me)

when i was in high school i watched the original grey gardens documentary. i found it really disturbing and quite depressing. so when this movie came out i was expecting it to be pretty much the same. it was a sad movie just because the story is so incredibly heart breaking but it explains so much more of their lives that it made the original documentary make more sense. you really start to understand why they were the way they were and you just felt sorry for them instead of thinking of them as just plain crazy. the thing that impressed me the most was just how much detail they put into this movie. the directors found the exact same articles that were in the documentary and placed them in exactly the same way as they were in the first. it was amazing to see drew barrymore and jessica lange doing scenes that were identical to the original. their voices, movements and clothes were so spot on that you really couldn't tell the difference. just incredible. i would highly recommend this movie for people to watch. in fact, i would suggest watching this movie first to understand the history before watching the original documentary. drew and jessica absolutely deserve all the awards and credit for their work. they were just fantastic.
